An act relating to the ASEWU Eastern Dialogues Committee. Be it enacted by the ASEWU Council that:

SECTION 1: Purpose

The Eastern Dialogues Committee shall be established to bring important cultural and educational events to the campus of Eastern Washington University. They will offer a unique opportunity for the audience to interact with the leading thinkers of our time.

SECTION 2: Membership

The voting membership of the ASEWU Eastern Dialogues Committee shall consist of:

  1. One (1) student at large appointed by the ASEWU President with advice and consent of the ASEWU Council. In the case of a vacancy in the position of student at large, any other Eagle Entertainment Coordinator shall vote by proxy until the position is filled;
  2. The Eagle Entertainment Lectures Coordinator (which shall only vote to break a tie); and
  3. The ASEWU Student Activities Representative.

The non-voting membership of the ASEWU Eastern Dialogues Committee shall consist of:

  1. The Director of Student Activities; and
  2. Any student.
SECTION 3: Voting

Quorum for the Eastern Dialogues Committee is two thirds (2/3) of voting members. Any item needs a simple majority in order to pass.

SECTION 4: Chairperson

The chair for the ASEWU Eastern Dialogues Committee shall be the Lectures Coordinator of the Eagle Entertainment Board. He/She shall:

  1. Ensure accurate records are being kept; and
  2. Bring all pertinent information to Eastern Dialogues Committee, including but not limited to potential speaker brochures, speaker recommendations from students, pertinent budget information, and other speaker related information.
SECTION 5: Meetings

The Eastern Dialogues Committee shall meet no less than once (1) each month, excluding summer quarter, and as necessary. The chairperson shall propose a meeting time, which must be passed by a simple majority of the voting membership. The chairperson is responsible for informing the voting membership of the decided time, as well as posting the meeting time for the rest of the student body.

SECTION 6: Removal of Members

If a student member is absent or does not send a designee, for two (2) consecutive meetings or a total of three (3) meetings in an academic quarter they may be removed by a vote of two thirds (2/3) of the voting members of Eastern Dialogues Committee for the remainder of the academic year. Removal of voting rights due to absenteeism does not require a vote of the ASEWU Council.

In all other cases dealing with removal of voting rights, by a resolution from the Eastern Dialogues Committee, approved by two-thirds (2/3) majority vote of the ASEWU Council, any student member of Eastern Dialogues Committee may be removed from Eastern Dialogues Committee.

SECTION 7: Rescinded

Bylaw 02-03/304A is hereby rescinded
