An act relating to the Student Health Advisory Committee.
Be it enacted by the ASEWU Council that:

SECTION 1: Purpose

A Student Health Advisory Committee, hereafter referred to as SHAC, shall be established to provide for the health and welfare of all Eastern Washington University students. The SHAC shall act in an advisory capacity to Student Affairs. The SHAC shall be the official representative to the ASEWU Council in all matters concerning student health and welfare.

SECTION 2: Membership

The membership of the SHAC shall consist of:

  1. One (1) representative from the office of Health, Wellness, and Prevention Services;
  2. The ASEWU Student Health and Safety Services Representative;
  3. One (1) faculty member from any department, preferably one from a health related department; and
  4. Four (4) students at-large appointed by the ASEWU President with the advice and consent of the ASEWU Council.

All members listed above shall have full voting rights. Any directly related medical contacts professionals shall be encouraged to serve as non-voting members of the committee.

SECTION 3: Vacancy

Upon the occurrence of a vacant student at-large position, the ASEWU Council can approve a qualified ASEWU appointed official to that position until a qualified at-large student applies. Upon appointment of an at-large student, the ASEWU official shall relinquish his/her committee position.

SECTION 4: Chairperson

The chairperson shall be the ASEWU Student Health and Safety Services Representative. The chairperson shall:

  1. Chair all SHAC meetings;
  2. Make sure accurate records are being kept;
  3. Bring all pertinent information to the committee;
  4. Present a report to the Vice President for Student Services and the ASEWU Council on a monthly basis (excluding summer quarter); and
  5. Only vote in the case of a tie.
SECTION 5: Meetings

The SHAC shall meet at least three times a quarter a quarter, excluding summer quarter, and as necessary.

SECTION 6: Responsibilities

It shall be the responsibility of SHAC to oversee:

  1. Student complaints against the EWU Administration and those related to the health and welfare of all students of EWU;
  2. Development of innovative programs to provide students with wellness information;
  3. Administration of disabled student needs;
  4. Student awareness of health services and their own general health; and
  5. The health and welfare of all students of EWU.
SECTION 7: Removal of Members

Any student member of the SHAC may be removed from the committee for failure to meet his/her responsibilities by a resolution from the SHAC that is approved by two-thirds (2/3) vote of the ASEWU Council.

SECTION 8: Rescinded

Bylaw 02-03/305A is hereby rescinded.
