Bylaw: Disposition: Date of Disposition: Date Introduced: | 2006-07/315____ Passed_________ March 1, 2007__ February 20, 2007 | | An act relating to the ASEWU Diversity Committee. Be it enacted by the ASEWU Council that: SECTION 1: Purpose The purpose of the ASEWU Diversity Committee is to present the opportunity for students to discuss issues pertaining to diversity, to clarify the definition of diversity, and to be the voice of the students in an advisory capacity to the ASEWU Council, as well as the President’s Advisory Committee on Diversity. The ASEWU Diversity Committee shall serve as a positive influence while striving to educate the campus community, promote cultural competency, and overall campus unity. SECTION 2: Membership The membership of the ASEWU Diversity Committee shall consist of: - Four (4) students at-large appointed by the ASEWU Council;
- The student member of the Board of Trustees;
- The ASEWU Diversity Outreach Representative.
SECTION 3: Vacancy In the event of a vacant student at-large position, the ASEWU Council may approve a qualified ASEWU appointed official until the appointment of a new student at-large to the committee. Upon said appointment, the ASEWU official shall relinquish his/her committee position. SECTION 4: Chairperson The chairperson for the ASEWU Diversity Committee shall be the ASEWU Diversity Outreach Representative. The chairperson shall: - hair all ASEWU Diversity Committee meetings;
- Ensure accurate records are being kept;
- Bring pertinent materials and information to meetings;
- Present a report to the ASEWU Council on a monthly basis (excluding summer quarter); and
- Vote only in the event of a tie.
SECTION 5: Meetings The ASEWU Diversity Committee shall meet at least two (2) times during the quarter, excluding summer quarter, and as necessary. In addition, the ASEWU Diversity Committee shall meet with the University President on a quarterly basis, and as necessary. SECTION 6: Responsibilities It shall be the responsibility of the ASEWU Diversity Committee to: - Address and discuss issues of diversity and bias as experienced or expected by the campus community;
- Advise the ASEWU Council on diversity and bias issues; and
- Be the voice of the students to the President’s Advisory Committee on Diversity.
SECTION 7: Removal of Members Any student of the ASEWU Diversity Committee may be removed from the committee for failure to meet his/her responsibilities by a resolution from the ASEWU Diversity Committee that is approved by two-thirds (2/3) vote by ASEWU Council.
