 The S.L.A.C. exists to get students involved in the legislative issues that affect their experience on the EWU campus. Every year decisions are made in Olympia that affect our education, and yet most Eastern students are oblivious to the process. This year, more so than any other in our lifetimes, the decisions made by the state government will have a lasting impact on our campus – they will affect us this year, and they will affect this school ten years from now. It is more important than ever that students make their voice heard in Olympia, and that the purpose of the S.L.A.C.

So get involved and get heard!

There are many different numbers being thrown around about our budget. As it stands right now Eastern is going to have a cut of at least $9.6 Million and a 7% increase in tuition. Although this may seem better than you have been hearing, I want to remind you that this is only based off the Governor's budget and is a BEST CASE SITUATION! We still have to wait for the Senate and House budgets to come out. Then for all three to agree on the numbers before we will know what we will be facing. We are still looking at possible cuts of $15 million and 20% increase in tuition for next year. 

 What this means for us a students is: Larger class sizes, Fewer classes, Less money for clubs and organizations, Longer than four years to graduate, and a lot more. Don't sit there and let this happen!! 

Want to get involved? Contact your legislators, let them know how important education is to you. Then add your voice to ours by joining, and make sure you're heard. If enough people get involved, we will make a difference.

Remember: this is your tuition money, your classes, your education. If you don't fight for higher education, who will?
