First of all, we encourage everyone to personally contact their legislator, as this is a right that other countries do not have. Give them a call or send them an email to let them know that you are paying attention and that you care about higher education. Legislators do take their constituents seriously – they will listen, and they will respond. You can find your legislator at www.leg.wa.gov – just make sure you look under your legal residence, not your dorm room. Second of all, we encourage you to join SLAC at either membership level. The more people we have behind us, the more impact we will have. Every voice helps! There is a lot to do in this group – we'll be coordinating email campaigns, holding on-campus events, and finding ways to get our message heard by legislators. This is a great opportunity to develop leadership skills, build a resume, and make a tangible difference in your own education and the education of decades of students to follow. Your future is being decided in Olympia – make sure you're a part of the process! |
