The construction of University Recreation Center was voted on by the students of EWU during a special election in January 2005. In order to fund the project students agreed to pay a fee; however, the fee would only start after the construction of the center was completed. The URC opened in spring of 2008 and assumed full operational status in summer of the same year. For hours of operations please see the URC’s home page The URC is a Three-Level 117,699 sq. ft. Recreational Facility with the following amenities
LOWER LEVEL - 19,455 sq. ft. Multi-purpose Arena (Ice Rink > Sport Floor)
- Arena Seating Capacity: 850
- URC Customer Service Counter (URC Skate Desk)
- Leisure Lobby Area with tables & chairs
- EPIC Adventures Outdoor & Outfitters Center
- 30 foot Indoor Climbing Wall with 11 routes (1 simulated Ice Climbing) & 2 bouldering walls
- Men's and Women's Student Locker Rooms
- Men's and Women's Faculty/Staff Locker Rooms
- 335 Multi-size Lockers; 195 Day-use Only & 140 Rentals
- 4 Arena-Use Locker Rooms
- URC Administrative Offices
- Indoor Parking Garage (40 Metered Spaces)
SECOND LEVEL - 17,000 sq. ft. Fitness Center
- Gymnasium
- "The ROOST" Dining Area
